FITS Mina and Pototan launched by TGP Partner Agencies

West Visayas State University joined hands with DA-ATI, Department of Agrarian Reform and Department of Interior and Local Government  in launching the  FITS Centers (Farmers Information Technology Services Centers) of the Municipalities of Mina and Pototan in Iloilo Province last July 11, 2014. Mina and Pototan respectively unveiled their new FITS Centers during morning and afternoon inauguration rites attended by officials and staff of the local government units and participating agencies concerned. Pototan and Mina joined the roster of FITS Centers under West Visayas State University which include Tubungan, Oton, Pavia, Bingawan, Lambunao, Leon and Lemery.        

WVSU has been a Partner Member Agency (PMA) in the implementation of the Techno Gabay Program (TGP) since 2008. Last year, PCAARRD turned over selected components of the TGP project (FITS Centers and Magsasakang Siyentistas) to DA-ATI. Months before the launching, UEDC Director Dr. Noeni S. Nepomuceno and University Extension Associate II Mrs. Rhodora B. Lapastora from WVSU evaluated the applications of the Municipalities of Pototan and Mina for their eligibility to set up a FITS Center.  

Municipal Mayor Tomas M. Penaflorida welcomed partners, farmers and project implementers from the Municipal Agricultural Office and has designated Mr. Renato P. Jamelarin (Municipal Agriculture Officer) to be the FITS Manager of FITS Pototan. Meanwhile, Sangguniang Bayan (SB) Member Bernardino P. Chichirita who represented  Mayor P. Grabato of the Municipality of Mina expressed  the support of the Sangguniang Bayan in the  implementation of the FITS Center in their municipality. Dr. Noeni S. Nepomuceno gave a brief backgrounder on the role of West Visayas State University as Partner Member Agency of the new FITS Centers.

The launching of the FITS Centers was highlighted by the awarding of symbolic checks by DA-ATI OIC Director Dr. Eden DLR. Reyes to Pototan and Mina FITS Centers. A ribbon cutting and billboard unveiling ceremony immediately followed the closing remarks given by both the Municipal Agricultural Officers of FITS Pototan and Mina.
