ASU and FITS New Washington hold ICT equipment turnover ceremony and launching of Community e-Center


In support to the promotion and delivery of effective information and technology services to the clients, the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD) through the Western Visayas Agriculture Resources Research and Development Consortium (WESVARRDEC) turned-over Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) equipment to the Farmers’ Information and Technology Services (FITS) Center of New Washington, Aklan through the Aklan State University (ASU) as Partner Member Agency on November 15, 2012.

 In line with the government's objective of making Information Technology more accessible to people, the National Computer Center (NCC) in partnership with LGU New Washington under the leadership of Mayor Edgar Peralta has launched a Community electronic-Center (CeC). 

FITS New Washington received five desktop computer sets with printer from (NCC) and one desktop computer set with printer and office supplies from PCAARRD-WESVARRDEC. 

New Washington Mayor Atty. Edgar Peralta led the ribbon cutting to formally launch the CeC.  He was joined with representatives from ASU headed by Dr. Marilyn Romaquin who represented the University President, Dr. Danilo Abayon.

Others who witnessed the turn-over and launching ceremony are Dr. Clyde Abayon, Techno Gabay Team Leader; Prof. Teresita Naculangga, Regional Management Information System Representative, and Regional Applied Communications Office Coordinator Sally R. Villasis represented WESVARRDEC.

The CeC and FITS Center are located at the Manuel C. Peralta Community Center where the farmers, fisherfolks and other clients are free to access the information and technologies they need.

Mayor Peralta said, that the turnover and launching are significant events to equip the LGU particularly FITS/Community e-Centers with necessary facilities for a more efficient delivery of information and technology services to the farmers and fisherfolks. 

Dr. Romaquin expressed the full support and commitment of the University in the achievement of a fruit partnership between the LGU and the academe. 

Meanwhile, on the same event, some 30 participants attended the training on Squash Puto Making with Ms. Rohanny R. Villanueva of SANDONA Development Cooperative as resource person.
